Legal Assistant/Intern

Altruistic real estate law office in Minneapolis seeks an intern to help manage a busy caseload.
The new employee will support other employees in our small, open-space office setting firm to
draft letters and legal documents on behalf of the firm and its clients. The firm’s clients are
diverse — in part because of the firm’s commitment to serving consumers and small businesses in
litigation with large banks and loan servicing companies. The firm handles a wide range of both
transactional and adversarial real estate related matters. A background in serving others, or a
demonstrated commitment to service in furtherance of a better world, are a plus. No prior legal
experience is necessary.

• Organize cloud-based case files on Basecamp and Google Drive.
• Draft letters, upon the instruction and guidance of more experienced staff,
• Draft and edit legal documents, such as a summons, subpoena, and “discovery” requests,
upon the instruction and guidance of more experienced staff,
• Proofread the writing of other employees, for spelling and grammar,
• Learn about legal issues and think creatively as to how to best serve client needs,
• Perform general office work such as scanning, mailing, and running errands,
• Assist in designing Powerpoint/Keynote slides for presentations.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Rising sophomore, junior or senior with strong academic record
• Strong research and analytical abilities, ability to extend knowledge and skills to the topic at
hand and to conceptualize and frame relevant questions
• Willingness to try to “master” a set defined skills
• Evidence of effectiveness working independently, demonstrated self-starter
• Learns quickly and strong attention to detail
• Ability to interact well with all kinds of people
• Comfort working with Apple products and using cloud-based web software, such as Google
Apps, Basecamp
